Our Advance Release wines offer a portal into the future of Thistledown. They are wines available in extremely limited quantities (often only around 400 bottles). They are most certainly a passion project - carefully selected, hand-bottled and hand-labelled - showcasing some very special fruit and vineyard sites that excel in any given year.

Viticulture
Single vineyard site in Clarendon, dry grown bush vines over 80
years old planted on a base of clay loam, shale quartz and ironstone. The Smart vineyard has South/South East aspect with great drainage and the vines are dry grown. The clonal type is heritage.
Winemaking
The grapes are hand picked and then naturally fermented, 30% is
whole bunch with 16 days maceration on their skins before  pressing to predominantly older 300 litre oak. Aged for 6 months before being hand bottled, unfined and unfiltered.
